Volunteer Opportunities

We offer a variety of meaningful ways for our members to get involved with volunteering in the UNC Hospital System and our Chapel Hill Community. These events provide a huge benefit to UNC hospitals, help to foster a greater sense of community, and allow students to deepen their passion for healthcare and volunteerism all while providing members with valuable experience. Sign-ups for the following events will be emailed to members monthly.

Pediatric Playroom

We’ll host events where our members can work closely with pediatric cancer patients. Students will organize several fun activities/events each month for younger patients to enjoy.

SECU Family House

Several times throughout the semester students will get the chance to volunteer at the State Employees' Credit Union of Chapel Hill. Students will cook and serve meals for patients and families whose loved ones are in hospital care. Students can also volunteer to help with the upkeep of the facilities.

UNC Hospitals Student Volunteer Program

We work closely with Volunteer Services in the UNC Medical Center to facilitate student application and acceptance into their undergraduate volunteer program. Through this program students may gain experience working in a medical setting, interacting with patients, and following the standard of conduct in a hospital environment.

Community Fundraisers

We regularly hold fundraisers to support the community, and always need volunteers to help with these events run smoothly. Opportunities will always be announced in our newsletters.

Ronald McDonald House

We frequently volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill. Students will cook and serve meals for young patients. Additionally, we try to host "Science Saturdays" events once a month to teach kids that you can have fun with science.

Pit Sitting

This is an event focused on raising awareness about different types of cancers to your fellow club members. Our members work alone or in groups of up to three members to make a short presentation about a specific topic related to Cancer Medicine, and give an informal presentation during the event.
